Links to pharmaceutical companies
We invite any pharmaceutical companies who produce asthma treatments or related products to contact us with links to internet published material.
It is accepted that such may include a
commercial interest, that is they may advertise their products. However,
pharmaceutical companies are often very good at explaining medical
conditions, and so are worth looking at.
action ASTHMA, which is a division of Allen & Hanburys, have kindly informed us of their web site.
Allen & Hanburys make a range of inhaler medication. Many asthma patients will have seen their Action Asthma literature with their medication.
This is a very comprehensive and informative web site. It has a good range of useful information. For example, it includes a library of fact sheets on a range of questions.
Clement Clarke International make equipment such as nebulisers and peak flow meters.
Their informative web site is www.clement-clarke.com
This covers the full range of products. Of interest to us is the Respiratory section. One example of the useful information is the manufacturer's guidance for the use of peak flow meters. This is a well organised and informative web site. Interesting new products include a compact spacer for metered dose inhalers, and a device for helping clear mucus from the lungs. (The Able Spacer is compact, effective, and has a universal connector for a range of brands of metered dose inhalers.)
The SASG can not give official endorsements. But we must say that our members have tried the Able Spacer and the Flutter de-congestion aid.
The Able Spacer was found to work better than the usual larger volume spacers. We believe that this is now available on presription. It has a universal size input for a range of inhalers.
The Flutter de-congestion aid worked very well. It was described as being expensive, but worth the money as being perhaps the only way to get effective relief from mucous in the lungs. At the moment we understand that it it not available on prescription. There are some patients for whom the makers do not recommend it if they have other serious medical conditions; see the notes on Clement Clarke International's information page.
